MONZA MENU ITEM HONORS LOCAL WAR VETERAN; DONATES $1000 to USMC WOUNDED WARRIOR REGIMENT

 

Monza and Carmello’s of Old Town Manassas, Va. became almost a second home to retired Col. Jack Lilley II, a long-time Catharpin resident, retired United States Marine Corp (USMC) and a war veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. After being a regular customer at Carmellos since 1978, the ‘Jack Special’ was born on Monza’s menu, with $1 of every order going to Lilley’s favorite charities:  the USMC Wounded Warrior Regiment and The Freedom Museum. Sat. Oct. 12, FREE Food and more...100 Year-Anniv. Manassas Utilities Event

The City of Manassas Department of Public Works and Utilities is hosting a free, 100-Year Celebration at the Sat., Oct. 12 Public Utility Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Manassas Public Works Building at 8500 Public Works Drive in Manassas, Va., includes free lunch, entertainment, tours and a time capsule burial. Manassas Utilities will also donate $5 for every person that attends the event to the American Cancer Society in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For information, go to www.manassascity.org

The family-fun event is free and features free lunch by Bad to the Bone,  ice cream by Nathans, live music by Shake It Up band, balloon artists, jugglers, cherry picker truck rides, tours, moon bounce, a pumpkin patch, as well as a kiosk depicting Manassas Utilities 100-year history, including a book that chronicles Manassas Utilities 100-year timeline.

The community is invited to the inaugural NOVA Community Fall Festival and Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 12, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. The event is free and open to the public.

This family friendly festival will feature entertainment and activities for all ages, including a car show, live music and entertainment, arts and crafts, children’s activities, food vendors, giveaways, community information booths, and more.

Residents at Ashby Ponds Make Returning to School Easier for Parents, Students Alike

(Ashburn, Va.) - On Monday, August 19, the Ashby Ponds Retired Educators Committee made the day brighter for 22 employees at the Ashburn retirement community.  At Ashby Ponds, residents who are retired educators and school employees formed a group at the community to help support education initiatives.  Most of the residents in the group are former Fairfax County Public School teachers, secretaries, and librarians, but many worked in schools in other area counties, as well.  For the fourth consecutive year, the group worked together to help make going back to school easier for the children of hourly employees at the community.  This year, residents bought and donated school supplies for 38 children in kindergarten through high school and distributed the supplies at the community on Monday, August 19.

The 5th annual sporting events saw participation from 150 residents at the community

(Ashburn, Va.) – Residents at Ashby Ponds recently participated in the community’s 5th annual Summer Olympics.  For a full week, residents participated in a variety of indoor and outdoor events resulting in the presentation of gold, silver, and bronze medals.  This year, 150 residents competed in the Summer Olympics, making for the largest participation rate in the community’s five-year history. 

From August 5th-12th, residents at Ashby Ponds competed in a walking relay, bocce, seated balloon volleyball, cornhole, Wii bowling, a sponge relay, water volleyball, Frisbee toss, ping pong, putting, and billiards.  Bocce, a new event this year, was played on the community’s brand new bocce courts just installed in July.  The events kicked off on August 5 with the running of the torch and came to

MANASSAS UTILITES COUNTS DOWN 100 DAYS UNTIL 100 YEAR ANNIV

The City of Manassas Department of Public Works and Utilities is gearing up for their grand 100-year anniversary celebration on Sat., Oct. 12 with a special 100-day countdown, starting mid-July, where the City of Manassas is saluting their customers with 100 variations of month-long giveaways.  A random set of Manassas utility customers could receive flashlights, water bottles, hats, coffee mugs or beach totes in July, August and September, while a few, fortunate customers will win grand-prize giveaways in October, leading up to the Oct. 12 celebration, including four restaurant gift cards from Manassas, Va.-based Carmellos, City Square Café and Monza, valued at $50 each; and one 17-inch freshwater pearl necklace and 7-inch bracelet with sterling silver clasps from Ashby Jewelers of Manassas, Va. Occasionally Cake of Alexandria, Va. is celebrating their four-year anniversary on Sun., July 21 and handing out one free cupcake per person to all their patrons with no purchase necessary at their Old Town Alexandria shop at 207 King Street. They will also donate 25 percent of all their sales that day to the March of Dimes, as well as collect donations to be given to the organization.
