Chevy Chase, MD (April 2, 2013) – A prominent apartment community in downtown Silver Spring has changed hands. The JBG Companies has purchased Falkland Chase apartments from Home Properties of Rochester.

Ashby Ponds retirement community hosted a fashion show in partnership with Stein Mart to raise funds for scholarships for local student employees at the community
 

(Ashburn, Va.) - Ashby Ponds residents coordinated and hosted a springtime fashion show and luncheon on Thursday, March 28 in partnership with Stein Mart department store.  Seventeen ladies and gentlemen who reside at Ashby Ponds strutted down the runway at the Ashburn retirement community; the ladies were escorted by four student employees dressed to the nines.  In just two hours, more than 180 tickets were sold for the fundraiser event.  The show raised just over $4500 for the Ashby Ponds Scholars’ Fund which is used to provide scholarships to student employees at the community.

Occasionally Cake of Old Town Alexandria donated more than $6,000 of cake and cookies to support the servicemen and women at the USO-Metro Annual Awards Ceremony at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Va. A “Stars and Stripes” centerpiece cake and star-shaped takeaway cookies by Occasionally Cake were on the dessert menu for the almost 700 attendees. On Monday, March 11, Senator Mark Herring (D-33rd) visited with residents at Ashby Ponds retirement community.  Sponsored by the resident-run Community Interest Committee, Herring provided updates from the recently completed legislative session in Richmond.  He also spoke briefly about the reasons he is running for the office of Attorney General in Virginia.

Metro Fine Arts Center Donates $5000 To Make-A-Wish Foundation

Metropolitan Fine Arts Center (MFAC) of Alexandria, Va. raised $5000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, after pledging $1 of every ticket sold from their Nutcracker performances.
