Town of Leesburg Plans Traditional Memorial Day Observance for Monday, May 30, 2011

From the Town of Leesburg – On Monday, May 30, 2011, the Town of Leesburg will hold its traditional Memorial Day observance on the Loudoun County Courthouse lawn.  This year’s featured speaker will be Major General Hugh “Bugs” Forsythe, USAF (Ret).  The observance will also include a wreath-laying ceremony and special music by the Loudoun Board Guard Fife & Drum Corps.  Leesburg VFW Post #1177 and the American Legion Post #181 will be participating in the observance ceremonies as well.

Thomas Balch Library Recognizes Volunteers At Annual Appreciation Luncheon

From the Town of Leesburg – On Wednesday, May 4, 2011, the Thomas Balch Library Advisory Commission recognized the contributions of its many volunteers with an appreciation luncheon.

“The success of the Thomas Balch Library is attributable in large part to the support we receive from our community of volunteers,” explained Alexandra Gressitt, the Library’s Director. “We are fortunate to have so many talented and dedicated volunteers.  Volunteers contribute to every facet of the Library’s operations, including research, transcribing manuscripts, indexing collections, assisting customers and teaching seminars and classes.”

This year’s honorees included:

·         Peggy & Fred Howard and Betty & Bobby Lowenbach, for their efforts on photographic identification.

Golds Gym Celebrates its Grand Opening in Broadlands

Residents of Ashburn area celebrated the Grand Opening of Golds Gym Broadlands this Saturday. It's an addition to the many cutting-edge health and fitness programs offered in the area.

There were numerous events and specials throughout the day including free food, raffles, free group excericse demos and an appearance by Redskins Cheerleaders.

Ashburn Boy's Family in Need of Aid

In the wake of a tragic car accident that took the life of eight-year-old Beshoy Eryan (Shokr) on Monday night at the interesection of Farmwell Road and Ashburn Village Boulevard, the St. Moses Coptic Orthodox Church in Ashburn is collecting donations to help  the family with funeral expenses and the medical needs of the mother.  Checks can be sent directly to the church at 44710 Cape Court, Suite 130, Ashburn, VA  20147.  Please write in the memo line, "Beshoy's Funeral."  The church's website can be found at  http://www.stmoses.us/ .  The Dominion Trail Elementary PTA is also collecting money to donate to the family, as well.  Beshoy's mother, Eman S. Thabet, is still hospitalized.

Salon Daniel Hairstylists Donate Hair Services to Local Teens

Salon Daniel of McLean, Va. recently treated 54 local teenage girls to a ‘salon day’ in preparation for Pure Fashion Show on Sun., April 3,  in Bethesda, Md. The Salon Daniel hair stylists and make-up artists shared their beauty tips and headshots were taken for the Pure Fashion Show program booklet.

Pure Fashion is a program designed for girls, ages 14 to 18. It is a character formation program that enhances not only a young woman's external appearance, but more importantly, her interior beauty and balanced self confidence.

Board of Supervisors Recognizes Outstanding Volunteers

From Loudoun County -- The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Monday recognized the recipients of the Volunteer Loudoun 2011 Outstanding Volunteer Awards. The awards honor citizens and organizations throughout Loudoun County who donate time and service to their community. The awards were presented in a ceremony held during the Board’s general business meeting.

The 2011 recipients are:

·            Outstanding Volunteer of the Year – John Lombardi: Lombardi was instrumental in heading the most successful fundraiser ever for The Arc of Loudoun, which resulted in $41,000 for the group, which serves people with disabilities and their families.
