Salon Daniel of McLean, Va. raised more than $2000 for Fashion for Paws, benefiting the Washington Humane Society. The salon had donated 100 percent of all sales to the Washington Humane Society during a day-long promotion.

 The Fashion for Paws® (F4P) Runway Show infuses the nation's capital with cutting edge high fashion, drawing an extraordinary crowd of VIP's, fashion and animals lovers alike to raise funds for the Washington Humane Society.

The Loudoun County Arbor Day celebration is Saturday, April 30, 2011, at The Hill School, 130 South Madison Street, Middleburg.  Festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. and will continue until 3:00 p.m.  The free, family-friendly event will feature many activities, exhibits and demonstrations highlighting the countless benefits that are associated with trees. Student winners of the annual Arbor Day Poster Contest will be recognized at the event by Loudoun County Public Schools Superintendent Edgar Hatrick, and Loudoun County Administrator Tim Hemstreet, who will be the keynote speaker for the event. The theme of this year’s poster contest is “Loudoun Celebrates Trees – The Anchors of the Earth.”

Loudoun Gears Up for Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 20

From Loudoun County -- Loudoun County is gearing up for Bike to Work Day, set for Friday, May 20, 2011. Both new and experienced cyclists are encouraged to register for this free event at www.waba.org or by calling 202-518-0524. Free T-shirts are available for the first 9,000 registrants in the region.

The Loudoun County Office of Transportation Services will host two of 49 Bike to Work Day pit stops in the region, where participants can pick-up free T-shirts and giveaways, enjoy refreshments and enter prize raffles. The Loudoun pit stops will be located along the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail, rain or shine in:

• Leesburg at Raflo Park on Harrison Street, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.; and

• Sterling at the trail entrance to Orbital Sciences Corporation, just east of Route 28, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Home Built by 90 FCPS Students is Part of this Weekend's Parade of Homes

For 40 years, students in the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) residential construction program have been building houses as part of the partnership between FCPS and the Foundation for Applied Technical Education, Inc. (FATE). This weekend, the 18th house in the series will be part of the Northern Virginia Parade of Homes. Parade homes are open from 1-5 p.m. on April 30 and again on May 1. 

Annual Arbor Day Celebration in Old Town Manassas Features George Carr Round

The 27th annual Arbor Day Celebration, presented by the City of Manassas Beautification Committee, will be held on Fri., Apr. 29 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the Old Courthouse lawn in Old Town Manassas, featuring guest speaker, George Carr Round, a Union Army Signal Corps veteran, played by Doug Nelson of Prince William County, Va.  Round was significant in creating the town of Manassas and organized the 1911 Peace Jubilee. Round will also be at the National Peace Jubilee event on Thurs., July 21 at the Old Courthouse lawn.
