METRO SCHOOL of the ARTS YOUTH TAP ENSEMBLE PERFORMS for BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION at NOVA

Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble of Metropolitan School of the Arts in Alexandria, Va. recently performed for the Black History Month Celebration by Music at NOVA at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria, Va.  Other entertainment included:  poetry, Martin Luther King, Jr. excerpts, NOVA Jazz Ensemble, NOVA Community Chorus and more. In preparation of the opening of BASIS Independent McLean, (which is Tysons Corner’s first prek-12th grade school), Basis.ed’s co-founder Michael Block will speak at an introductory session on Mon., Feb. 22 at the Sheraton Tysons Hotel at 7 p.m., located at 8661 Leesburg Pike in Vienna, Va. The Washington Post recently ranked BASIS Oro Valley in Arizona the number one most challenging high school in America and now that  private school model is coming to McLean, Va. Block was recognized not only as a top educator by Noodle, an education website helping parents and students make better decisions about learning, but Noodle also noted Block for ‘creating educational institutions that combined the rigors of Asian and European schooling with the American system’s emphasis on creativity and originality.’

Carmello’s of Historic Manassas, Va. is offering a Christmas Eve dinner, Thurs., Dec. 24 from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and New Year’s Eve a la carte dinner on Thurs., Dec. 31 with seatings from 4:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. (Two-hour seatings are booked for parties of two to six people; larger parties have two and a half hour seatings). Complimentary Portuguese sparkling wine is served with all seatings. Late seatings receive party favorites if they stay until midnight. Children 10 and younger can eat free from the kids’ menu. METRO SCHOOL of the ARTS to DAZZLE with NUTCRACKER, BREAKFAST w/SANTA and NUTCRACKER in Nutshell

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria and Lorton, Va. will present three, festive holiday performances in December, including:

The Nutcracker on Thurs., Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. and Fri., Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., as well as Sat., Dec. 5 at
1 p.m. and 7 p.m., held at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center at 8333 Little River Turnpike in Annandale, Va. Tickets are $27 per adult and $21 for seniors/students at www.metropolitanarts.org.

Breakfast with Santa will be featured on Sun., Dec. 6 at the Hotel Monaco at 480 King St. in Alexandria, Va. with two seatings: 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets are $45 per adult and $35 for ages 9 and younger. Tickets at www.metropolitanarts.org.

METRO SCHOOL of the ARTS PERFORMS and DIRECTS Jason Robert Brown’s ‘SONGS for a NEW WORLD’

Metropolitan Youth Theatre students of the Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria and Lorton, Va. will present its student-directed and produced performance of Jason Robert Brown’s “Songs for a New World” on Fri., Nov. 6 at 8 p.m., Sat., Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sun., Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at the W-3 Theatre at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Va. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased online at www.metropolitanarts.org.   

This production is completely student run and performed by Metropolitan School of the Arts high school students studying to have careers in theatre. Chad Vann of Alexandria, Va. is the director, while Sam Cornbrooks of Springfield, Va. is the producer. James Woods of Northern Virginia is the music director.
