In 2011, Loudoun County Public Schools Will Resume Before Labor Day

Yesterday, the Loudoun County School Board adopted a 2011-2012 calendar that provides for Loudoun County Public Schools to begin the week before Labor Day.

In September, Dr. Ed Hatrick, Superintendent for Loudoun County Public Schools, told School Board members that he intended to open schools before Labor Day for the 2011-2012 school year. And after seeking parent, student, and staff input, the School Board voted unanimously to adopt a new calendar. As a result, students will begin the new school year on August 28, 2011, and conclude the school year on June 8, 2012. They will have typical Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks.

This Weekend: Loudoun Ballet Company Presents Deep in the Forest

Deep in the Forest, an original story ballet created by Artistic Director Maureen Miller, premiered in the spring of 2005 with rave reviews. Deep in the Forest tells the story of a fairy princess, her unicorn, a pesky dragon, and a host of woodland characters that are bound to charm audiences of all ages with its happy ending and moral lesson.The inspiration for Deep in the Forest came from Miller's fairy collection, which numbers about 100 pieces. And not surprisingly, many of those fairies were gifts from ballet students over the years.Join LBC and its talented dancers this weekend only Potomac Falls High School. Showtimes are Saturday, October 9, at 1 PM and 4PM. And Sunday, October 10, at 4PM. Tickets will be sold at the door and are general admission. Prices are $15.00 for Adults, and $10.00 for Children (12 & under) & Seniors (60 & above).

Legacy Orthodontics Celebrates New Office Opening with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, October

From the Town of Leesburg, VA – At 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 9, 2010, Town of Leesburg officials will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for Legacy Orthodontics located at 705-C East Market Street in the Prosperity Center shopping center.  Mayor Umstattd will be officiating.

Legacy Orthodontics is the practice of Dr. Markus Niepraschk. A Virginia native, Dr. Niepraschk graduated first in his class from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and completed an additional two-year advanced educational program in the exclusive study of orthodontics at Marquette University.

Family Fun Today at 4 p.m.: Loudoun Symphony Presents "Movie Magic"

The Loudoun Symphony invites you and your family to join them today as they celebrate the opening of their 2010-11 Season.

This year, the Loudoun Symphony and the Loudoun String Workshop will be presenting its concerts in Virginia Academy's state-of-the-art 800-seat auditorium. The Virginia Academy is Loudoun County’s largest private school, offering classes from preschool to 8th grade. The school enrolls over 700 students and is located in the familiar, steepled Community Church, which is located on Route 7 in Ashburn.

11th Annual Oktoberfest & Volksmarch

South Riding Community is hosting it's 11th Annual Oktoberfest this Saturday, October 2 from 12:00-7:00 on the Town Green.

SR transforms it's Town Green into a local biergarten filled with incredible bratwursts cooking and cold brews to follow. Come dressed in your best Lederhosen and let loose!

There will also be the 1st "unofficial" Volksmarch starting at 11:30. It will be a quick 5.7 mile walk. Starting point is at the church parking lot across from the Town Green. Rain or shine come ready to celebrate!
