School walls, buses vandalized with graffiti in Ashburn


ASHBURN, Va. (WUSA9) -- Several locations in the Ashburn Farm area, including a school building and school buses, were vandalized with graffiti early Tuesday, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. 

There were multiple reports of vehicles that were spray painted with graffiti on Gatwick Square and Wintergrove Drive. Police say a sidewalk in the area was also vandalized with graffiti. 

Exterior walls and a pillar at Trailside Middle School, two parked school buses and a sign to Trailside Park were also vandalized. 

Police are investigating the vandalism as possibly being gang-related.  

Loudoun County supervisor issues apology after resignation

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - A Loudoun County supervisor who resigned hours after police said he strong-armed his way into a neighbor's home and shoved the man during a dispute is apologizing.

Shawn Williams, a 44-year-old Republican who recently acknowledged a history of domestic violence and drunken driving charges, said in a statement Monday that he wanted to apologize to family, friends, colleagues and constituents.    

Williams said that after a weekend party he confronted a friend and neighbor after the man gave him "what I know was intended as friendly advice." Williams said it has "become painfully clear" that he needs help with alcohol abuse and that he is getting professional assistance. He also apologized to the man and his family.

According to the county sheriff's office, Williams faces simple assault and unlawful entry charges.

Loudoun County supervisor resigns after assault charge


ASHBURN, Va. (WUSA9) -- A member of the Loudoun County board of supervisors resigned Sunday after being charged with two misdemeanors.

Army parachutist killed during show had family in Virginia

CHICAGO (AP/WUSA9) - Members of a U.S. Army skydiving team will return to their base, where they will have access to counseling, after a parachutist from their unit died from injuries suffered during a stunt at the Chicago Air & Water Show.
Golden Knights spokeswoman Donna Dixon said Sunday that the team will head to Fort Bragg in North Carolina, where they can meet with chaplains. She says the Army wants to ensure everyone is mentally and physically fit to continue with the show season.
Sgt. 1st Class Corey Hood of Cincinnati, Ohio, was pronounced dead Sunday. The 32-year-old who had served five tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan was injured a day earlier when he collided in midair with a member of the Navy's precision skydiving team. That man was treated for a broken leg.

Worker killed at silo identified

ASHBURN, Va. (WUSA9) -- A worker just shy of his 19th birthday was found dead a day after an 80-foot silo full of mineral filler partially collapsed at a Loudoun County quarry. An official with the Mine Safety and Health Administration identified the worker as 18-year-old Daniel Potter. 

The sand plant silo full of mineral filler partially collapsed Monday morning at Luck Stone Leesburg Quarry in Ashburn.

His family, who had not left the scene since Monday, and rescue workers had hoped that the young man would be found alive in a void inside the silo, but at approximately 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, a 

County Fire Department official announced that the young man was found deceased.
