LEARNINGRx of DC AREA TRADES IN FREE BRAIN TRAINING for ‘POOR’ REPORT CARDS

It’s report-card time for many students and LearningRx brain training centers of Reston, Va., Fairfax, Va., Leesburg, Va., Vienna, Va., and N. Potomac, Md. are giving hope to kids and teens by offering two free hours of brain training in exchange for less-than-stellar report cards throughout November. For more information, go to www.learningrx.com.

LearningRx of the DC area is offering anyone 18 and younger two hours of free brain training when they bring in a copy of their report card. The interactive and fun brain training exercises strengthen the cognitive skills that students need to learn effectively (attention, memory, processing speed, problem solving, among others). And that means improved mental performance in the classroom, at home, and even on the sports field.

Maureen Loftus, executive director of LearningRx brain training centers of Reston, Va. and Vienna, Va. received the national 2015 Community Impact Award for being one of the top 10 LearningRx brain centers in the United States and was recognized for the 2015 Outstanding Customer Service Award by LearningRx’s corporate offices in Colorado Springs, Colo. METROPOLITAN SCHOOL of the ARTS to PRESENT “THE COMPANY PROJECT” GALA, Sun., Oct. 11

On Sun., Oct. 11, Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Lorton and Alexandria, Va. will debut “The Company Project,’ featuring innovative choreography by MSA faculty and renowned guest artists including Ginger Cox, Derek Mitchell and Michelle Dorrance, performed by MSA’s four pre-professional dance companies - iMpulse Youth Jazz Dance Company, Metropolitan Youth Ballet, Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble and iLL-Matik Youth Hip Hop Company. The gala will be at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center in Annandale, Va., with tickets at $35 per person and $50 per couple. For tickets, go to www.metropolitanarts.org.

The MSA program will celebrate many facets of "inspiration" in art and dance from classical origins to modern urban styles and present some of the area's most talented youth dancers in ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop.

VA/MD STUDENTS NAMED FINALISTS in NATURE VISIONS PHOTO EXPO PHOTO CONTEST

Ten students from local high schools have placed as finalists in the Nature Visions Photo Expo (NVPE) Student Photography contest and will receive a $50 gift card fromDistrict Camera, of Burke, Va. The 10 finalists were chosen out of more than 60 submissions, representing schools from Northern Virginia and Maryland.  The winner will receive a $100 District Camera gift card and will be announced at NVPE at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, Va., held on Sat., Nov. 14 and Sun., Nov. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. All finalists’ photography will be on display at NVPE.  General admission is free to view the photo exhibits and visit more than 20 local and national photography vendors.  Class fees range from free to $85.

LearningRx brain training centers of Reston, Va. and Vienna, Va. are helping schools this year by providing $300 in school supplies for six schools in Fairfax County, Va. The donation is to help offset the schools’ supply wish list for the 2015-2016 school year. For more information on how to help with teacher’s wish lists, go to www.teacherslists.com.

LearningRx staff dropped off school supplies to Wolf Trap Elementary, Aldrin Elementary, Colvin Run Elementary, Lake Anne Elementary, Forest Edge Elementary and Clearview Elementary, all in Fairfax County, Va. Baskets include: glue sticks, notebooks, tissues, disinfectant wipes, folders, pencils, markers, crayons, dry erase markers and highlighters.

Potomac, Md. , to support needy students at local schools. A five percent discount for brain training is offered to those who donate a backpack and five school supplies. Metro School of the Arts' Elite Dance Workshop includes Creative Director for Janet Jackson’s Tour

An elite team of international dance instructors are set to teach dance students at Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) an intense workshop of hip, hop, contemporary, jazz and tap dance, including Stephani Kammer who’s noted for her work in Janet Jackson’s Rock Witch U world tour and the Michael Jackson tribute on the MTV Video Music Awards. Classes are from July 27 to Aug. 7 for ages 8 years-old to 18 years-old for $950 and a junior class from Aug. 3 to 7 for ages 6 years to 7 years old for $500.
